The Placemaking for Climate Mitigation project builds on several years of experience of the partners with placemaking and community engagement in the Balkans. Led by BG Be Active and its partners in Romania and Greece, the initiative utilizes placemaking as a tool for fostering sustainable urban development and community resilience. This project integrates local actions with EU climate goals, aiming to empower citizens and authorities to co-create climate-resilient public spaces.
Background
The P4CM was born because the Balkan region faces significant climate-related challenges, including poor waste management, unplanned urbanization, and the impact of extreme weather events. Communities lack the resources and awareness to adequately address these issues, while regional cooperation is often limited. This project empowers communities to actively participate in placemaking as a tool for building climate resilience, while fostering collaboration between citizens, local authorities, and experts to create sustainable urban solutions that address both local and regional environmental crises.
Partners
PCM is coordinated by BG Be Active (Bulgaria) and involves key partners AJSPT Suceava (Romania) and AMONG (Greece). These partners bring expertise in placemaking, urban development, and climate action to ensure meaningful community engagement and effective climate solutions.
